Play helps police to communicate with young people
8:50am Saturday 4th February 2012
A SCHOOL will be hosting a play which helps the police to engage with children.
Hendre Junior school ‘Night-Out’ Young Promoters scheme will be hosting the show, ‘Komedy of Errors’, in Hendre Junior School on Monday February 6.
Komedy of Errors sees brilliant performers -'Gerald' (juggler Ben Cornish) and 'Wallace' (clown Steve Eldridge) combine to bring you a show packed with comedy, dazzling juggling, circus skills, uni-cycling and daftness which is suitable for all ages.
The group of 19 local children, who are between the ages of 9 and 11, have been busy arranging the show over the last few weeks.
The project assists Gwent Police to engage with young people in the area and helps to bring shows into local community facilities.
Over the last few weeks the group of children have been attending weekly workshops with local officers to put in place preparations and learn new skills along the way. The children have been busy approaching local companies for sponsorship, inviting VIPs, marketing and selling the tickets, as well as arranging the refreshments.
On the night they will take charge in running the event, helping the performers to set up, organising the front of house, welcoming the audience by making speeches and tidying up at the end!
Special Inspector Christine Smith, said: “The children and staff have all worked really hard over the last few weeks to help bring the show to the Trecenydd community, and they have all taken their responsibilities seriously. It’s a great way for us to strengthen links with local young people and I hope that they have picked up new skills along the way. I’m sure the local community will be out to offer their support on the night.”
The tickets cost between £2.50 and £3.50 – they can be purchased ahead of the night at Hendre Junior School.
Doors open from 6pm and the show will start at 6.30pm.
